Borough teen faces drunken driving charge

 A 17-year-old Princeton Borough n-youth has been charged with drunken arriving, possessing an open container of alcohol and careless driving following an accident that injured a Princeton  Township man Wednesday, according police. Jamie M. Smith of 88 Jefferson Road was released on his own recognizance add is expected to appear in Municipal Court today, Tuesday, to hear the charges brought against him following the accident, police said.

The accident occurred at 2:37 p.m. Wednesday when Mr. Smith was traveling north on Mount Lucas Road and ran his 1981 Mazda off the road after losing control of the car, police said.

The vehicle skidded across the north and southbound lanes of the road before striking Joseph DiViaio, 77, of 508 Mount Lucas Road, who was walking near his home, police said.

The car continued to skid 23 feet into some hemlock bushes before striking a large tree, according to police. Mr. DiViaio suffered fractured ribs as a result of the accident and was removed from the intensive care unit at the Medical Center at Princeton where he is in good condition, said Michael Loyack, a hospital spokesman, Monday.
