Officer Rodweller Hurt While Fighting A Fire

While fighting a blaze in Guyot Hall last Thursday night, Night Traffic Officer Elmer Rodweller, who is also a member of the No. I Engine Company, nearly lost his life when overcome by fumes that penetrated his gas mask.

Trapped alone in a locked room filled with euaping chemical fumes where he had fallen through a trap door that had badly bruised his ribs, he crawled along the floor feeling his way till he came to a leaked door. With quick presence of mind, he used his nightstick on the panel’s and finally made his escape from the room. June 19, 1941
