Carb Priming Blamed For Friday Car Fire

Peter Guthrie of 330 Jefferson Road tried to start his 1970 Volvo during Friday afternoon’s snow and cold temperatures by pouring gas into the carburetor to prime it. The only thing that started was a fire.

Police report the carburetor back–fired and began to belch fire. The blaze was put out by Ptl.Stephan Hogancamp with a powder extinguisher from his patrol car. One piece of fire apparatus and seven Princeton firemen also arrived to assist. The fire, police said, was confined to the carburetor.
