Fire Company Scam

The Princeton Fire Department Chief, Joe Meyers, is warning area businesses and residents about misleading solicitations in the area. All businesses and residents are urged to directly contact their local fire company if they receive any solicitations from Star Productions of South River or the Fire Fighters Association of New Jersey.

According to Princeton Borough Council President Mark Freda. a local business was solicited to help pay for a book that would benefit the Princeton Fire Company. While the Princeton Fire Department does accept voluntary donations from the community, it is not putting together a fund-raising book, nor does it do telephone solicitations in the community. Additionally, area businesses and residents should be aware that area volunteer fire companies only solicit within their own community boundaries.

While both Star Productions and the Fire Fighters Association of New Jersey deny using the name of the Princeton Fire Department in their solicitations, Chief Meyers and Council President Freda are pursuing the matter with the State Attorney General’s Office and other agencies.
