TEN YEARS AGO, May, 1974

A design for the phase I development of the north side of Community Park is expected soon, according to an announcement by Mayor Jay Bleiman, stating: “Having waited nine years to take the first step, we got it all wrapped up in three to four days.”


A Princeton Borough Councilman has accused the Planning Board of catering to Princeton University in its Central Business District Plan, charging that half or more of the board’s 14 members are either employees, spouses of employees or alumni of the university. The charge was denied by Borough Mayor Robert Cawley.


The Shade Tree Commission has planted approximately 240 trees this season.


Hulit’s Shoe Store opens for business in temporary quarters on Witherspoon Street following destruction of its Nassau Street store by fire earlier this year. It will take about six months to rebuild the original store.
