TRENTON — Area municipalities will be given funds this year to purchase firefighting equipment due to a new law passed Monday. Lawrence Township is expected to receive $11,105, Princeton Township $7,704, Princeton Borough $6,776, West Windsor $4,809. Montgomery $4,144, Plainsboro $3,156, and Rocky Hill $404.

The bill, sponsored by state Sen. Frank X. Graves (D-Passaic), provides $2.8 million for state volunteer fire departments and $5.2 million for departments with paid volunteers. Each municipality’s allotment was based on population.

“This provision is significant because for the first time volunteer fire departments will also receive some of this additional money for fire protection.” Sen. Graves said.
