Oil Spill at Jasna Polana

An oil spill in Stony Brook has been traced to a tank at Jasna Polana, the Johnson estate on Lawrenceville Road.

Police responded to a call at 5:15 p.m. on October 5, from a resident near Stony Brook who detected the odor of oil. The Fire Chief investigated and advised that there was no fire hazard.

The State Department of Environmental Protection was contacted and was able to trace the oil spill to a small holding tank for ex-cess fuel oil at Jasna Polana. A shut-off valve was not operating properly and the overflow had spilled into Stony Brook.

The incident is under investigation by the DEP to determine if a charge will be made.
