A leaf fire in front of 266 Witherspoon Street damaged the front of a car, police reported.

The fire was called in at 12:55 p.m. on July 3 and police, one fire truck and 11 men from the Chestnut Street firehouse responded. The car is owned by John Johnson of 292 Witherspoon St.

Police and firemen responded to a report of smoke in the basement of a home at 364 Franklin Ave., about 1:18 p.m. on July 4. The smoke was found to be coming from a burned out sump pump motor.
