Suspicious Label Set On Early Morning Fire

A basement fire early Tuesday morning at the Elm Club on Prospect Avenue is being termed suspicious by Borough police.

Responding to a 4 a.m. sounding alarm, police discovered smoke throughout the building. In the basement they found several smouldering cardboard pizza boxes which had been extinguished before they arrived by two residents of the club who had poured beer on them.

“No one was found in the basement and at this point we are ruling it suspicious,” said Chief Thomas Michaud. There was no report of any damage.

Four fire trucks and 15 firemen responded to a fire at 3:54 Sunday afternoon at 369 Ridgeview Road in the Township. According to Lt. Mario Musso, the fire was confined to a malfunctioning oil burner.
