Three Major Fires

Three severe fires did considerable damage in early 1980 The Value Fair store was completely burned out on January 8. A February fire did extensive damage to the home of Grace B. Lambert, and the Pennington School’s O’Hanlon Hall was left a blackened shell after the blaze of February 21.

The recycling shed burned – vandals? – in June. At year’s end, the Township was moving ahead on plans to re-build it of cinder block.

Princeton’s enterprising young fire chief, William Shields, staged a mock fire-drill on the University campus in August, and Princeton’s First Aid and Rescue Squad welcomed, in April, its two new, full-time professionals.
