Two cars catch fire

On Friday in Township. Township police responded to two car fires on Friday, one in the morning and one in the afternoon.

At 8:33, the engine compartment of a 1970 VW caught fire on King Street, as a result, police believe, of a leaky gas line. The fire was extinguished by Ptl. John Seeley with the aid of Assistant Fire Chief Ray Wadsworth. Police identified the owner as Thomas T. Kane. 22SC Halsey Street.

At 3:35, police responded to a car that became disabled on Mercer Road near Battle Park when its entire rear end burst into flames. Three fire engines were summoned by Ptl. Seeley, who felt that the car’s gas tank might explode.

Police believe the fire started as a result of a faulty gas tank. The owner of the car is Diane Ashley of Bridgewater.

Trash Fire. Fire trucks from Engine No. 1 and 3 responded to a 10:44 call Friday night reporting a trash fire on the north side of Princeton High School.
Police said that the contents of a Dempsey Dumpster were on fire.
