Volunteer Drive Planned For Firemen, First Aid

The Princeton Fire Department and First Aid Squad are scheduled to begin a combined drive to recruit additional volunteers within the next two weeks.

Assistant Fire Chief Mark Freda, a member of Borough Council, said the two volunteer organizations are hoping to attract people who are going to be around for a while. “We need to build up a core of local people who will be here a long time,” he said.

The First Aid Squad is currently at about 35 members. It should be at about 50, said Mr. Freda. In addition, about a quarter to a third are Princeton University students, who usually have to leave the squad upon graduation.

The Fire Department is hoping to increase its numbers by 36; it would like to have 12 additional volunteers at each of its three fire stations. Anyone interested in volunteering, or who would like further information, should call Theresa Cuppels at Borough Hall, 924-3119.
