General Alarm Sounded For Fire on John Street

A general alarm was sound- G ed shortly after 2:30 Friday  afternoon for a fire in a garbage can at a home at 158 John Street. No one was injured.

According to police, the fire started in a garbage can in the its kitchen and traveled up the the wall and ceiling. Firemen were at the scene for about 20 minutes.

Lt. Peter Hanley reported that while the cause is still under investigation, it is believed, he said, that a match was thrown into the can before it had been properly extinguished.
