Red Cross food drive will begin on Monday

Collection barrels for the Red Cross food drive should arrive Saturday at area first aid squad buildings.

The Princeton Packet Inc., in conjunction with the area Red Cross Chapter and the local first aids squads, will sponsor a Thanksgiving food collection. The purpose of the drive is to collect non-perishable and canned goods to be distributed Nov. 25 to the elderly and needy families.

Participating in the drive are first aid squads from Cranbury, East Windsor, Hopewell, Lawrence, Pennington, Princeton, Kingston, Montgomery, Plainsboro, Rocky Hill, and the Twin W first aid squads.

Collection barrels are scheduled to be delivered Saturday to the squad buildings, and the food; collection to begin Monday.

This is the first year the squads… have been involved in the food’ drive, said Doris Harper, direct of of social services at the Red Cross.

The Red Cross asked the squads to participate in the drive because they are “located in the communities” where the Red Cross is, asking people to donate goods. Participation by the squads also: will encourage people in the community to become more familiar… with their local first aid squad, she added.

And finally: “There just mail good people to work with.”
