A New York resident was driving down Alexander Street about 4:16 p.m. Aug. 3 when his 1976 Volkswagen Dasher caught fire, police said.

After smoke started pouring in through the vents, the visitor pulled into a nearby parking lot. Flames then engulfed and completely destroyed his vehicle. The Fire department extinguished the blaze.

Police said the car had recently been repaired.
